John Kweku Laast, MD is a Physiatrist and Sports Medicine Consultant. Trained at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center (USA), he is also a faculty member at the Huashan Hospital Department of Rehabilitation (Fudan University, China).
Born in Ghana, Dr. Laast completed his Secondary School education at the St. Augustine’s College located in the Central Region of Ghana and then proceeded to the United States of America (USA) where he received a Bachelor’s Degree (BSC.) in Microbiology from the University of Notre Dame (USA). Dr. Laast further obtained his Medical Degree from the Brody School of Medicine at the East Carolina School of Medicine.
After several years of practice in both the USA and Asia, Dr. Laast returned to Ghana with a wide pool of knowledge and experience to help improve the quality of healthcare in Ghana. Prior to his decision to join FOCOS, Dr Laast served as a member of Faculty at the University of Health and Allied Sciences at Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana, a position he still occupies.
Being the only Ghanaian trained Physiatrist in the country, Dr Laast’s addition to the FOCOS medical team means the hospital can handle a wider spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions.
As a Physiatrist, Dr. Laast treats patients with sports injuries, stroke, general body pains, arthritis, and pre/postsurgical care rehabilitation, chronic disabilities related to cerebral palsy and among others.
