FOCOS Ethiopia Trip – June 2016

Two or more times each year, Prof. Oheneba Boachie Adjei and a small team of medical and research staff visit Ethiopia to follow up on patients treated previously by FOCOS. The team also sees prospective patients who wish to be treated for various musculoskeletal diseases. This trip,  Prof. accompanied by Dr Kwadwo Yankey (Specialist Neurosurgeon), Mr Henry Ofori Duah (Clinical Research Officer) and Ms. Bezawit Tilahun (Scrub Tech) reviewed over 50 patients and undertook 60 growing rod surgeries at the newly commissioned Aaabet Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. They also saw over 100 new patients all within a week.

The team was hosted by the AJJDC (American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, visit www.jdc.org), an NGO committed to supporting the healthcare needs of poor communities.

Below are pictures from the trip. Of particular interest is the picture of the young master (Gabriell) who came to FOCOS in a wheelchair ( Year 2014) and is now walking and running like any normal child. (ref Photo: Prof with Young Master Gabriel)
