FOCOS and GNPC organize orthopedic screening in the Western Region
FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital in partnership with Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) organized a three-day orthopedic screening for the Shama district in the Western region, last week.
The 3-day exercise which took place on Wednesday, January 16 to Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Shama Health Center and the Golden Gate Senior High School saw a total of 466 patients being screened for various conditions of the spine, joints and other musculoskeletal disorders of which 37 of them were referred to our facility for treatment.
The team from FOCOS comprised of: the Development Manager, Nana Kwame Osei Fordjour; Development Officer, Victor Mimaose; Raphael Gborkpah and Umaru Muniru both Registered Nurses. The Western Regional Sustainability team of GNPC, led by Madam Patience Lartey were also present to lend their support to the FOCOS team.
The objective of the screening exercise was to identify patients in dire need of orthopedic care as well as detect early symptoms of these conditions to avert future complications. The District Assemblies, District Health Directorate (DHD) and the Shama Health Center played important roles in making the exercise successful.
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), as part of their existing partnership with the Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS) has agreed to the sponsor the surgeries of five patients each year in their areas of operation, of which the Shama district is part.
